Ameriabank Assigned 'B+/B' Ratings with Stable Outlook by S&P
Ameriabank CJSC (“the Bank”) has been assigned 'B+/B' long and short-term issuer credit ratings with stable outlook by S&P Global Ratings. The Bank is the first and only entity in the Republic of Armenia ever rated by S&P.
'B+' long-term rating on Ameriabank is one notch lower than its stand-alone credit profile (SACP) rated bb-, due to the sovereign’s creditworthiness constraint.
The long-term rating on Ameriabank reflects the bank's leading positions in Armenia, and S&P’s expectations that the Bank will maintain its leading position in the market and its capitalization will strengthen over the next 24 months, supported by stable profits.
S&P expects economic growth of about 7% in Armenia, in line with 2017, with average growth over 2019-2021 slowing to about 4%, nevertheless higher than that of peer countries.
The banking system in Armenia is viewed as stable, with no apparent market distortions. The trend for industry risk is also considered to be stable.
In S&P’s view, Ameriabank is well positioned to retain its leading market positions in Armenia, in light of the favorable and improving macroeconomic environment, and supported by its professional management team and controlling shareholders with significant experience in banking and the financial sector.
The stable outlook over the rating horizon of the next 12 months reflects S&P’s expectation that the bank's business and financial profiles will remain stable.
